MassBike's 5th Annual Bike Night
Monday, October 18, 2004

MassBike, Massachusetts' statewide bicycling education and advocacy organization, will hold its 5th Annual Bike Night Celebration on Monday, October 18, 2004 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Ryles at 212 Hampshire St. in Inman Square, Cambridge.

Secretary of Commonwealth Development Doug Foy will give the Keynote Address. Awards will be given to state senator Jarrett Barrios and comedian Jimmy Tingle.

The event, MassBike's premier annual fundraising event, will raise awareness about MassBike's advocacy successes this year, including passing legislation requiring the Drivers Manual to be updated with bike safety information. A silent auction will be held featuring items including an electric bike, gift certificates from Redbones and Harpoon Brewery, apparel from EMS, and more.

Founded in 1977, MassBike is the only statewide bicycling education and advocacy group in Massachusetts, and has more than 1300 dues-paying members. In addition to this year's win on the Drivers Manual update, MassBike has a history of results. MassBike was instrumental in the creation of the Minuteman Bike Path, now the second most popular trail in the U.S.; the passage of the 1996 Bike-Pedestrian Access Law; and the MBTA policy change allowing bikes on the T without a special pass.
