It was the first workday snowfall of the winter, so I stayed at work for four hours after we closed so I could bike home on snowy streets and paths. It was sleeting on top pf a couple of inches of snow when I left work around 6:15, and the going was a bit slower than normal. I rode my hybrid with studded tires and wore a facemask and ski goggles, which steamed up occasionally. My hands stayed warm with gloves inside Bar Mitts, and knee-high waterproof boots over fleece tights and leggings kept my legs and feet warm. A heavy waterproof windbreaker over a sweater took care of my core and disipated the extra heat I was generating biking through the snow.

Streets were not much better than the paths, and the paths I rode were plowed during the storm like the streets and had an inch or less of snow. Bike lanes were generally less clear than the streets. I followed a pair of snow plows on Hyde Park Ave. which weren't moving as fast as I could. The car drivers were very frustrated, but not me.

Northampton Bikeway East-west across the City of Northampton City of Northampton	Craig Della Penna, who lives next to the path, has reported that it is the intention of the DPW to make it passable ASAP after a storm. If the storm is significant, then they plow it repeatedly --sometimes 10-12 times during the course of the storm to ensure its usability.
