"Retire the Legal Fees Party"
to Celebrate Bicyclists' Right to Ride
March 25, 2002

Scott Jenney, a 44 year old electrical engineer and father of two, was arrested in the spring of 2001 and accused of "disorderly conduct" while riding his bicycle to work. After hearing the prosecution's case, the presiding judge dismissed the case outright.

Jenney could have faced 6 months in jail and a $200 fine. He is now a free man, but has incurred legal fees of $5,000, and while it's time to celebrate, there are still the outstanding legal bills. The Cycle Loft in Burlington has graciously offered to host a "retire the legal fees party". Jenney's attorney, former Massbike president, Andrew M. Fischer, has offered to donate to MassBike all the moneys raised at the party to be used in efforts in the areas of police education and Share the Road initiatives.

Highlights include live music by the award winning world beat band Lovewhip, food and drink, and computer trainer races.

Bike parking will be on-site, and door prizes will include Cycle Loft Shopping Spree Gift Certificates, a Night Rider Light set, and free water bottles. The suggested donation is $20 at the door.
