Massbike's 3rd Annual Bike Festival + Pie Race

Saturday, August 27th (rain date August 28th)
9:30 AM - 3 PM Concord, Massachusetts

Although spring has only just begun, MassBike urges you to think of summer and mark your calendar for our third annual Bike Festival and Pie Race on August 27th. It is a full day of great rides, food, and events for the whole family. Our new location at Verill Farm in lovely and historic Concord, MA, is sure to please everyone from Lance Armstrong to the once-a-year rider.

Rides are available from 5 miles to a metric century (100 K). They include jaunts to local landmarks like Garden of the Woods and Drumlin Farm. To celebrate the joys of summer we also include an ice cream ride and a swimming hole ride. There will be an afternoon bike expo and activities for kids as well.

The crowning jewel of the day is the brand new Pie Race. It will be a short (5-10 miles) race in which competitors will have to endure three "pie stops" where they halt their ride in order to consume a slice of fresh local pie! It is a fun "full-body challenge", testing the strength of stomach in addition to the strength of the rider's legs.

The inaugural Pie Race will be sponsored by the local racing club NEBC/CycleLoft, who are looking to support MassBike and bike advocacy at a club level. The Pie Race itself is also a good fit for NEBC/CycleLoft. Event organizer Karin Turer says that when she spoke with club president Tami Buhr about the pie race, she knew she was talking to the right person; "Tami's love of pies is well-known to anyone who has heard her speak of her RAGBRAI experience".

Additional sponsors include Verrill Farm and REDBONES BBQ. All proceeds of the event go to Massbike, which works to improve cycling conditions throughout Massachusetts. For over 25 years, Massbike has been a vital resource for cyclists as well as elected officials, police, and the general public.
