Neponset River Bikepath: Construction Begins!

October 4, 1999

The Neponset Trail was added to the Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization's Transportation Improvement Plan at a meeting just before the end of September, in time for the money which is being spent removing soil contaminated with arsenic and lead to count as the state's 20% match for ISTEA Enhancement funds which will be used to pave the trail. The cleanup began October 1 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of December, leaving a the area around the trail cleared of vegetation and debris and a coating of gravel over the trail from Central Ave. in Milton to Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester. The trail should be paved, funded *entirely* by the already-matched federal money, in the spring of 2000.
